Below are several lists of the best ski resorts in the US. The top ten lists are broken down by Western and Eastern United States. Note that the Rocky Mountain ski resorts are in the Western US list even though they deserve their own Rockies designation at some point. Aspen -   Aspen Mountain is often known as the playpen of the rich and famous  but it does feature some excellent terrain for all ability ski levels.  Aspen Mountain has fantastic groomed intermediate runs and for the skier who wants a challenge, Aspen Mountain Powder Tours is a great choice for experts as it provides access to hundreds of acres of terrain off the backside of the mountain.

Buttermilk - Buttermilk Mountain is essentially Aspen-lite. This is where to go to learn to ski or to take it easy. The terrain is moderate, with well-groomed runs.

Crested Butte - Big, open and uncrowded, Crested Butte is a Great Colorado Ski Town and a true winter paradise.
